Further news on June 25
By Administrator Account on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 |

Dear Friends,
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I was distracted from updating the Rosefinches by some matters concerning the genus Ninox. And this has preoccupied me for a while. I have just about finished that updating, and will get back to the Rosefinches tomorrow. Check out Ninox- it's better than any other source -guaranteed.

News for June 24, 2008
By Administrator Account on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 |
|
Dear Friends,
I returned on Monday 16 June from a trip to Qinghai,China. This was a tough trip, as it mainly involved hiking up and down mountain slopes between 3500m and 5000m. But we saw some wonderful and rarely seen birds. This got my World Lifelist to 7032. As a number of the birds we saw involved splits, I decided to update the website for these splits. These include Chinese Spotbill, Anas zonorhyncha, and many of the Rosefinches. Check them out! Also check out Pink-billed Finch Urocynchramus pylzowi, which has been placed in its own family, the Urocynchramidae.
Enjoy.

Hallelujah!Synonymy of Ducks,Anatidae finished!
By Administrator Account on Monday, May 19, 2008 |
|
Dear Friends,
I am delighted to say that at 2.45 pm on Monday, 19 May, I entered the last synonym for Biziura Lobata Musk Duck. This is the first attempt at a full synonymy for this family since Salvadori,1895,Catalogue of the Birds in the British Museum,27. Now I can put away all my stuff for ducks and go back to the pigeons.
Enjoy! As usual, any comments, corrections or queries welcomed.

Synonyms of Anatidae Ducks nearly finished
By Administrator Account on Sunday, May 11, 2008 |
|
Dear Friends,
As I have told you many times before, I rarely rest when I am at home. I decided to fill up the biggest hole I had left behind me, the syononymy of the Anatidae. As of today, Sunday 11 May, I have just finished Bucephala albeola. Only about 6 more species to go. This has been a hell of a job, because ducks tend to have lots of synonyms! I have also been adding extra detail to the distribution, and adding materials to the Movements field.
More news on the upgrade front. The cost has now blown up to ca $5000. With over 700 users per week, I am sorry that so far I have had only one kind offer of assistance. This is for the benefit of users, so please email me at jpenhall@bigpond.net.au if you can help.

Introduction
|
 |
I have been working for some time on what I hope will be the most comprehensive
database about the birds of the world, both extant, and extinct since 1600.
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND FULL INFORMATION IS NOT YET AVAILABLE
FOR ALL SPECIES!
The extent of work completed (to the extent that anything in
such an ongoing project can be called completed!) is indicated in the Peters
Family List.
I will be updating the information in this database monthly.
I welcome any comments and particularly corrections or more precise information.
